Bangsawan
The word "bangsawan" means "Opera" or the traditional entertainment in Malay. I was first introduced to this word while visiting Jakarta Indonesia. Literally meaning the same in both countries (Malaysia, Indonesia), however what I happened to discover down in Jakarta was a different Opera, not your usual acting... but yes it was an Opera alright but an opera of flavours. I was sight seeing at Senayan Mall one day when i came across this shop.
the Bangsawan im talking about is an opera alright, but of traditional Indonesian Kuih (desserts, they are - but not always - sweet, bite size food), they come in colorful and very tasting creations, made from sticky rice, tapioka, and coconut milk. You got to have a taste of it to understand what i mean, the closest meaning or description i can give is, Kuih is the Asian version of pastries. (by the way you can already get a taste of Bangsawan at the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, foodcourt)

Lantern Festival
Also known as the Moon Festival, is a popular East Asian tradition of Chinese origin, dating back over 3,000 years to moon worship in China's Shang Dynasty, that spread to neighbouring cultures like Japan. It was first called Mid-Autumn festival in the Zhou Dynasty. In Malaysia and Singapore, it is also sometimes referred to as the Lantern Festival or Mooncake Festival.
Last night was the culmination of the Lantern festival, I for one am a fan of this festival. The burst of color, lights, and good food. Children playing in the park carrying lit lanterns.
not to forget the sorts of flavors of moon cakes, from the traditional red bean filled, lotus paste with the salted egg yoke, its just heavenly. In some parts of Asia, like Malaysia and Singapore you would even have durain filled moon cakes, if moon cakes to the west is exotic pastry,....wait till you get a taste of the durian filled cakes.
here is a shop selling all the moon cake stuff, unfortunately was to shy to come closer to get a snapshot of the cakes, for those who don't have an idea on what it looks like, try gooling it. But trust me it realy is tasty...i can finish 2 standard sized cakes all to myself.
