Butter Prawns, Lala, Kangkung (Jalan Alor)

Yummy photo ;), yup it's Butter Prawns. My baby was in KL a few weeks ago for a visit and some shopping and cuti cuti around...i decided to bring her to the famous Jalan Alor...she being not as adventurous as i am when it comes to food, i ordered something that could possibly be familiar most common are sea food dishes. We called for butter prawns, lala and one vegie (Kangkung belachan).... the prawns is basically cooked with butter and seasoned and fried with fresh curry leaves ....can be noticed in the picture...this i got to learn to cook....(the cooking of the prawns is easy....but if you notice the yellow colored floss type (can anyone teach me how to cook or prepare this stuff, ive tried countless times and failed :( ) well anyway for me thats kinda intriguing how to cook this yellow butter based stuff... i wont be content until ive perfected cooking this dish.

HOKKIEN MEE (CHINATOWN KL)

Hokkien Mee, is fried noodles cooked in Hokkien (Fujian) style a favorite in Singapore and Malaysia and one of my personal favorites too. Noodles being one of my staples in my daily diet...aside from prawns.. being a noodle lover I've tried Hokkien Mee all around Kuala Lumpur.....and so far nothing beats the way and style of cooking in this place downtown.... located in an alley a few meters right across the road from Chinatown along Jalan Pudu (not sure if its still part of Jalan Pudu) it has always been there since the first time I was brought there to try the Hokkien Mee by Archangel... (don't get conned by the name! Archangel is lakas TOMA boy lol husband of my sis Storm also lakas amats wake up 3am in morning )..... anyway what's so special about the Hokkien Mee in this place, it is cooked using charcoal fire giving it a distint smoked taste to the dish compared to the usual ones you find in other food stalls using gas fire.

here is the owner and the cook himself...mind you i've not noticed any signage to the name of this food stall or alley, but this place gets packed most of the time, specially on a weekend. (Chinese say, when there is a long cue or if the place is packed, the food must be good)

the place does offer other stuff on its menu, but this place is famous for the Black Hokkien Mee, seen in the pic is the rest of the menu. Operating hours start around 4 pm till the wee hours sometimes way past 1:30 am 7 days a week except on Chinese festive holidays... (not too sure on that)

not to forget, my favorite chili sauce that goes real well with the Hokkien Mee.... for me its not spicy at all...but for the first time comers.. it would be good to restrain a bit on this sauce take it in small portions if you are not used to spicy stuff.
here is a picture from the inside of the alley, well it looks pretty run down for a place...but if you are into the adventure for good food i'd give this place 5 stars ***** for it's Hokkien Mee... next time you go Cuti Cuti Malaysia and Makan Makan then you may want to check out this place... bet you, you wont regret it... my baby Mystique is now an avid patron to this place too...whenever she's in town she makes it a point to drag me to this place for Hokkien Mee.

JALAN PETALING

PETALING STREET - Is located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur's CHINATOWN a bustling afternoon and night market which is a bargain hunter's paradise and one of the premier shopping areas in the city with its distinctly oriental atmosphere. A traditional festive atmosphere particularly at mid-afternoon when vendors spread their wares out the street starts to come alive. While it is possible to purchase anything from gems, bags, shoes to toys and t-shirts here, enjoying this street market is really a matter of just wondering about and enjoying its sights, sounds, and energy. It is a must place to see, for visiting tourist to Kuala Lumpur, although the city has other attractions to offer, my personal feeling about Jalan Petaling if missed, I'd say you've not experienced Kuala Lumpur in full.

For a first time comer to Jalan Petaling, here are some tips to learn from and use when you are there. When hunting for a good bargain on anything you wish to buy once in the place, it would be good that you don't get overwhelmed with all the goodies you see onsite (well this does not often is the case for women shoppers like my baby) ;). Prices are common to be jacked even triple, for the reason when looking out for a good bargain one must have a few bargaining skills in this place. Point of caution when you see something you wan't, make sure you are ready to buy and bargain for what you want.... don't just open your mouth and ask for how much and later turn away...this is not a good thing to do in Petaling Street. (do such thing and you sure by chance get scorned and shouted at by the vendor, its a culture in this place). Try practicing the 3 I's in this place it sure helps allot, than embarking into the unknown.

"Identify the target" identify is the first what you want to buy look around at other same products before you decide take your time don't rush, thats the joy in shopping... my sister and my baby Mystique is good with that... it's a shopping Death March actually.

"Initiating Contact" initiating contact is the 2nd I, by asking the price from a particular vendor where you find something you want.

"Infiltrating the Network" it is the psychology of sizing up, to how much you can go to bargain for what you want..my baby is still a green horn on that... but she loves good bargains...pic above shows the start of a Death March # XXX

FAKE dude. if you can't afford to buy the real thing then just admire the fakes, don't buy a 10 RM give away..

DIY Instant MEE POH DRY

MEE POH DRY Instant noodles by MYOJO. Yes it's instant noodles you are reading about, but what's so special about this instant noodle?, well it's one of my favorites....unfortunately if am not mistaken it's not available in Malaysia for reasons that I don't know.. well well let me tell you what you are missing about this noodle. Well the taste is not like your instant MEE GORENG...hehehe but its the somewhat flat egg noodles in it. Like anyother instant mee it comes with a small packet of KICAP & SESAME spicy oil. But its still is not spicy enough for my taste thats why i prepare it with least 5 pods of CHILI PADI ;)... then add a few pieces of medium prawns...and wala you got a good tasty dinner or snack.

....i get to buy this noodles in Singapore....but in KL am real sure can't find lah...you may want to try your luck in JB but can't say that guaranteed can find lor...might as well just cross causeway and buy .....hehehe ;)
