FAMOUS 328 KATONG LAKSA (Bugis Singapore)

Katong Laksa is one of Singapore's boasted dishes, it even is hailed as the island state's national dish. Laksa is a humble dish made of rice noodles, in a velvety soup base of coconut milk, shrimps, cockles, fish cake and chilli paste not to forget the main garnish the dish is identified from which is the laksa leaves (dahun kesum Malay), lit' Vietnamese Coriander. This dish has has won over fans (one of them is me) including expatriates, celebrities, and visiting dignitaries to the state.

But there's Laksa and there's Katong Laksa. Katong Laksa is different from its counterparts in that it is served only with a spoon (no chopsticks required). Talk to a Singaporean about Katong Laksa and you sure will hear the tale of the ongoing "Katong Wars" hmmmm quite a colorful history this dish has to tell.

As was told, there are 3 top contenders in the Katong Wars, and one of this names is 328 Katong Laksa, where i've had the coveted dish twice now (who cares about having stomach problems with coconut milk) the exotic taste is worth the trouble after. Although 328 Katong Laksa has other branches like the one at 216 and 51 East Coast Road, this outlet i frequent is located in near the Bugis MRT station next to OG. All to say the above picture states itself...yumm yummm yummy.. this bowl of Katong Laksa is SG$ 3.50 around US$ 2+, exotic taste and filling for a reasonably cheap price. ***** i give it a 5 star personal rating for taste (declaimer: everithing that tatse good to me i give 5 star ratings).... personally recommended you try this Katong Laksa if you down Bugis. what better way to enjoy a bowl of dellicious Katong Laksa but with a refreshing drink like this Honney Dew shake (you have choices if you like milk with it, or a preference without)...i choose the plain honney dew shake without milk..me and milk don't work too well ;) ... you can get this refreshing drink at the beverage stall just beside for SG$ 1.50 about US$ .90...

as always when i travel and sample the local delights the place has to offer, i tend or intentionally become greedy and want to try everything... like this fried Wonton dumplings...that i ordered from the Wonton shop also beside 328, twas a mistake calling for this order though...first it took over 20 minutes before i got it...(maybe due to confusion with allot of people around)...dint taste good lah... it looks yummy though in the picture thats why i shared it...tasted like over crispy fried flour... SG$ 3 for an order ...and i ordered 2 :( mistake of being greedy... (not recommended to try & make the same mistake as i did)

this is an idea on how crowded the place gets when you go to street food stalls beside OG at Bugis, well like the saying goes...where the place is crowded then the food must be good...(exception to the wonton fried dumplings)...well food is a definite crowd drawer ;)
