RED CHILI STEAMBOAT (鸳鸯火锅 )

One of the delights Malaysia can boast and has to offer is a variety of food. What makes the variety of Malaysian food so special?, the reason for this is given to the great influence of a mix racial culture of Malay, Chinese, Indian, Thai and Indonesian. Another attribute would be the richness and aviallability of exotic herbs and spices that is native to Malaysia.

In Kuala Lumpur, the richness of this tastes can be found in many areas of the city, but one has to note that the assortments of this cullinarys are not confined to Kuala Lumpur but can be experienced all around the archipelago.

One suburb place in Kuala Lumpur is Pudu, Pudu is a known place where you can find good chinese cuisine, a travel tip; do remember that food stalls you see in the day time are different from the food stalls you see at night, one must not assume that they are the same stalls even if you see them in the same location. The variety of food you can find in Pudu is a Chinese gastronomic paradise...from the Dim Sum, Chi Chong Fan, Ban Mee, Roast Duck to varieties of SteamBoat and the list just goes on.

This brings us to the SteamBoat, yup let me explain to my readers back home what the steamboat is all about...to get knowledge what this is all let the steamboat aficionado's give you a highlight on what it is...we decided to take the 鸳鸯火锅 Yuan Yang Huo Guo or ( Yin Yang Steamboat ) which was recommended by the Evil darklords DarkAngel & Hanibal...

Hanibal in a moment of contemplation....what to order, see the burrner in the middle of the table..thats where the steamboat is fired up for heating the soup.



The DarkAngel making a point....to order spicy or .... and complaining on how long she had to wait for me and Hanibal, by the way we went to the wrong restaurant :))

鸳鸯火锅 Yuan Yang Huo Guo (hokkien) thats why Yin Yang, it speaks for itself...divided in the middle, one is spicy soup the other half is the normal herb soup with Chinese red berries and vegetables.


three typs of sauces, fried chili in oil (fire oil), fermented bean curd, and the fermented black bean sauce.

鲜尤鱼 fresh cuttle fish (Xian You Yu) and the 牛肉片 (Niu Rou Pian) thinly sliced beef ...similar to your beef Shabu Shabu slices in Japan.

鲜虾丸 (Xian XIa Wan) Fresh prawn ball, yum yum yum i love prawns they are a staple in my diet by the way...all of this are then dipped into the boiling vat of soup you saw earlier then you dip into your sauces and wala...heaven ;)

猪肉片(Zu Rou Pian) Pork thin slices and far end of the picture is 牛肉丸 (Niu Rou Wan) Beef ball..... not the balls of the bull okay..;)

鲜吊片 (Xian Diao Pian) Brown pickled cuttle fish of some sort, honesly dunno how to discribe it..but i love it.

Mutton thin slices .... dunno how to say in hokkien


鸭掌 (Ya Zhang) Duck Feet, din't like this that much though.. but okay okay lar.....

the two Darklords Hanibal & DarkAngel busy being busybody with the steamboat ;) oh forgot to mention about the vegies on the far ent of the picture betwwen the two darklords...some kind of chinese letuce 油麦 (You Mai)


..... and to wrap up the Steamboat meal...a refreshing free platter of fresh fruit, water melon and slices of tangerines..

this is the after effect of a bombastic steamboat meal....DarkAngel sleepy...but Hanibal still going on strong to finish the food... over all we paid about RM 40 each ...that would be US$ 11.50 not bad at all.... so next time you are around Kuala Lumpur and in the Pudu area you can go and try one of the steamboat restaurants over there....

NOW AM HUNGRY....!!!
